Christian-Integrated Therapy for Children, Teens, and Young Adults
Evidence-Based Treatment That Can Include Your Christian Faith:
You should not have to choose between specialized mental health treatment and therapy that respects your faith.
At Ezer Psychotherapy, children, adolescents, young adults, and families receive evidence-based care for eating disorders, anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, Functional Neurologic Disorder (FND), and performance-related concerns. When desired, Christian beliefs and practices can be thoughtfully integrated into treatment.
Faith integration is always optional and individualized. It can be central to therapy, included occasionally, or not included at all. You and your family decide what feels most helpful.
Virtual therapy for clients in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Florida.
Specialized Therapy With Optional Christian Integration
Christian-integrated therapy is not a separate treatment model or a replacement for clinical care. It is a way of incorporating your beliefs, values, and spiritual life into evidence-based treatment.
Depending on your preferences, therapy may include:
Exploring identity, worth, hope, and purpose through a Christian perspective
Examining how faith affects your relationship with food, your body, emotions, achievement, or illness
Incorporating Scripture, prayer, or other spiritual practices when requested
Identifying the difference between supportive faith and fear-, guilt-, or shame-based thinking
Processing spiritual questions, doubt, grief, or disappointment
Connecting treatment goals with personally meaningful Christian values
Helping parents support their child with both compassion and appropriate boundaries
Faith is never imposed, and spiritual practices are never used as substitutes for evidence-based treatment, medical care, or appropriate safety planning.
Areas We Treat:
Christian Eating Disorder Treatment:
Eating disorders can affect a person physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. Some clients struggle with guilt around food, rigid ideas about health or self-control, body dissatisfaction, perfectionism, or feeling that their worth depends on appearance or achievement.
Treatment may address:
Anorexia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa
Binge-eating disorder
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)
Disordered eating
Body-image distress
Compulsive or excessive exercise
Depending on the client’s age and needs, evidence-based treatment may include Family-Based Treatment (FBT), FBT for Transition-Age Youth, Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), or other individualized interventions.
Christian integration may help clients and families explore identity beyond appearance, performance, productivity, or the eating disorder. Faith is used to support treatment—not to moralize food, weight, exercise, or body size.
Christian Therapy for Performing Artists and Athletes
Performing artists and athletes often work in environments that reward discipline, precision, competition, appearance, and constant improvement. These strengths can become painful when self-worth becomes tied to achievement or when rest, mistakes, changing bodies, injuries, or uncertainty feel unacceptable.
Therapy can address:
Performance anxiety
Perfectionism and fear of failure
Eating disorders and inadequate fueling
Body-image pressure
Compulsive exercise or overtraining
Difficulty resting
Injury, illness, or loss of role
Burnout
Identity outside of performance
Transitions away from competition or performance
Christian integration may help clients examine the difference between pursuing excellence and believing they must earn their worth. Treatment can support a more sustainable relationship with achievement while honoring the client’s ambitions, talents, and faith.
Christian Therapy for Anxiety, OCD, and Perfectionism
Anxiety and OCD can become intertwined with faith. A young person may worry about disappointing God, making the wrong decision, failing to pray correctly, having an unwanted thought, or not being “good enough.” Others may struggle with perfectionism that appears responsible or high-achieving but creates intense pressure and fear.
Therapy can help with:
Generalized anxiety and excessive worry, panic symptoms
Social anxiety, health anxiety
Obsessions and compulsions
Scrupulosity or religious OCD
Intolerance of uncertainty
Overcontrol and rigid thinking
Fear of failure or disappointing others
Academic, athletic, or performance perfectionism
Evidence-based treatment may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the Unified Protocol, or Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT).
For clients with scrupulosity, Christian integration is approached carefully. Therapy does not provide reassurance to satisfy OCD or attempt to resolve every spiritual uncertainty. Instead, treatment helps clients recognize OCD, tolerate uncertainty, reduce compulsions, and reconnect with their faith in a healthier and more flexible way.
Christian-Informed Therapy for Functional Neurologic Disorder
Functional Neurologic Disorder can cause real and often frightening symptoms, including nonepileptic seizures, weakness, tremors, movement changes, sensory symptoms, or difficulty speaking or walking.
Therapy may help clients and families:
Understand the diagnosis without blame or shame
Recognize patterns that may affect symptoms
Build nervous-system regulation skills
Reduce fear and avoidance
Increase daily functioning
Return gradually to school, activities, relationships, and valued goals
Coordinate care with medical, rehabilitation, and school professionals
If desired, Christian faith can provide a source of meaning, hope, support, and resilience while a client adjusts to symptoms and works toward recovery. Faith integration does not suggest that FND is caused by insufficient faith or that prayer should replace medical and psychological treatment.
